The Cleveland Cavaliers are getting closer to signing free agent center J.R. Smith, a league source told FOX Sports on Tuesday.
ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman reported that the team has been talking to the former Utah Jazz center, but there is no timeline for a decision.
The Cavaliers have also expressed interest in the New Orleans Pelicans center Dwight Howard.
The Cavs are currently the favorites to land Smith, who averaged 8.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game for Utah last season.
The 26-year-old is eligible for a $20 million salary, according to Spotrac.com.
